Police in the Rwenzori East Region are investigating the suspected murder of a 35-year-old watchman whose body was discovered in a septic tank at a hotel construction site in Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District.
The deceased has been identified as Naziru Akansinguza, a casual worker and resident of Bwenanule Cell in Muhokya Town Council.
Akansinguza had been employed as the sole watchman at a hotel construction site owned by Power Deals Company Limited along the Ishaka–Bushenyi Highway.
According to police, the body was discovered on Saturday after the proprietor of the construction project, Sarah Tuhaisomwe, travelled from Mbarara to inspect the site following several days of unsuccessful attempts to reach Akansinguza by phone.
Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said the deceased had reportedly not answered calls since July 1, raising concern among his employer.
"The body of Naziru Akansinguza was discovered dumped in a septic tank behind the hotel construction site where he had been working alone as a watchman. The scene was visited, processed and documented, and the body was retrieved by the Fire Department before being taken to Kasese Municipality Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing," Maate said.
Police believe the killing may have occurred between July 1 and July 4, although the exact circumstances surrounding Akansinguza's death have not yet been established.
Investigators have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could help identify and arrest those responsible.
"People should desist from acts of lawlessness. Anyone with information that can lead to those involved should volunteer it so that they are brought to book and answer the relevant charges," Maate said.
No arrests had been made by press time, and police said investigations into the suspected murder remain ongoing.
